Job Summary
We are seeking a qualified, experienced, and dedicated Safety Officer. The Safety Officer will be responsible for implementing Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) requirements, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, company policies, and JSW safety standards. The role requires close coordination with project teams, client representatives, contractors, and subcontractors to maintain a safe work environment and achieve zero incidents throughout project execution.
Key Responsibilities
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
- Implement and enforce company HSE policies, JSW safety requirements, and applicable statutory regulations at the project site.
- Ensure strict compliance with all client safety procedures, permit systems, and site-specific HSE guidelines.
- Promote a proactive safety culture and encourage safe work practices among all employees and contractors.
Site Safety Monitoring
- Conduct routine site inspections to identify unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and potential hazards.
- Perform Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) before commencement of work.
- Monitor critical activities including:
- Structural steel fabrication and erection
- Piping fabrication and erection
- Equipment installation and alignment
- Hot work
- Work at height
- Confined space entry
- Lifting and rigging operations
- Electrical isolation (LOTO)
- Shutdown and maintenance activities
- Ensure compliance with the Permit-to-Work (PTW) system for all high-risk activities.
Safety Training & Awareness
- Conduct site safety inductions for new employees and contractors.
- Deliver daily toolbox talks, safety briefings, and awareness programs.
- Educate employees on PPE usage, emergency response procedures, hazard reporting, and safe work practices.
Incident Investigation
- Investigate accidents,
incidents, dangerous occurrences, and near misses.
- Identify root causes and implement Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
- Monitor the effectiveness of corrective actions and ensure timely closure.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, audits, training, permits, incidents, and compliance activities.
- Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly HSE reports to project management and client representatives.
- Maintain statutory registers and all project safety documentation.
Emergency Preparedness
- Coordinate emergency response plans, mock drills, and evacuation exercises.
- Ensure availability and proper maintenance of fire extinguishers, first-aid kits, emergency equipment, and spill response materials.
Compliance & Audits
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety legislation, industrial standards, company policies, and JSW HSE requirements.
- Participate in client safety meetings, inspections, and HSE audits.
- Monitor closure of audit observations and safety action items within specified timelines.
Coordination
- Work closely with Project Managers, Site Engineers, Supervisors, Client HSE personnel, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure safe project execution.
- Stop any unsafe work that presents an immediate risk to personnel, equipment, or the setting and report it immediately to management.
Qualifications
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or any recognized technical discipline.
Mandatory Certifications
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or
- Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety (ADIS) or
- Diploma in Industrial Safety from a recognized institution.
- Additional HSE certifications will be an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 3+ years of experience as a Safety Officer in heavy engineering or industrial construction projects.
- Hands-on experience in shutdowns, structural steel erection, piping works, heavy equipment installation, maintenance, and fabrication activities.
Technical Skills
- Thorough knowledge of Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) regulations and industrial safety standards.
- Strong understanding of OSHA principles, Indian statutory safety regulations, and industrial best practices.
- Practical experience with HIRA, JSA, PTW systems, LOTO, emergency response, fire prevention, and incident investigation.
- Knowledge of lifting plans, scaffolding safety, work-at-height requirements, confined space safety, excavation safety, and electrical safety.
- Proficiency in preparing HSE reports, audit reports, safety statistics, inspection checklists, and compliance documentation.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
