About the Role:
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Consultant – Surgical Oncologist to join our multidisciplinary oncology team at a reputed multi-specialty hospital. The ideal candidate should possess a strong foundation in surgical oncology practices, with the ability to diagnose, evaluate, and surgically manage a wide spectrum of cancers. As a key member of the oncology department, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality patient care, participating in multidisciplinary case discussions, and contributing to continuous clinical excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform surgical procedures for the treatment of cancer, including tumor resections, biopsies, and reconstructive surgeries as required.
- Evaluate patient medical history, diagnostics, and pathology to develop and recommend treatment plans in alignment with oncological best practices.
- Participate actively in tumor board meetings and collaborate with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, and other specialists to ensure a holistic approach to cancer care.
- Monitor post-surgical recovery of patients and manage any complications or follow-up interventions.
- Educate patients and their families on surgical options, outcomes, recovery timelines, and ongoing cancer management plans.
- Stay updated with emerging technologies, surgical techniques,
and treatment protocols in surgical oncology.
- Contribute to clinical research initiatives, case studies, or academic teaching, if applicable.
- Support hospital quality improvement activities and adhere to protocols for infection control and patient safety.
- Maintain accurate documentation and records for each case in accordance with hospital and regulatory guidelines.
- Mentor junior medical staff and participate in knowledge-sharing and skill-building initiatives within the department.
Skills and Competencies:
- Robust clinical knowledge and hands-on surgical expertise in managing cancers of the breast, gastrointestinal tract, head and neck, genitourinary system, and other solid tumors.
- Familiarity with laparoscopic, minimally invasive, and robotic-assisted surgical techniques is an added advantage.
- Excellent diagnostic and decision-making abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to provide empathetic patient care and collaborate effectively with peers.
- Ability to work in a high-pressure, team-oriented environment while maintaining composure and professionalism.
- Commitment to continued education and professional development in oncology.
Candidate Profile:
- MCh or DNB in Surgical Oncology from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of 1 year of post-qualification experience in a hospital or cancer center setting.
- Valid medical registration/license with the appropriate medical council.
- Experience in handling multi-disciplinary oncology cases will be preferred.
