Your Role and Responsibilities

The Product Engineer (PE) supports the service structure, development and serviceability of a product or solution part of IBM Power HW portfolio. They are typically called in to provide technical expertise for critical & complex situations as a subject matter expert within client technical support. Product engineering works with Development, Engineering Test, R&D; and others early in the development cycle to learn the designs and implementation of systems/subsystems, then acts as an interface to the remote, field support and clients in resolving complex problems for customer environments. Product Engineering Professionals also enable client success and drive strong client advocacy into Development. Product Engineering teams provide support to the Remote & Onsite Support to develop and drive the implementation of product installation, repair, remote & field management and problem resolution strategies. They act as technical advisors for Account Management and IBM Sales during pre-sales and post-sales engagements. PEs also design and deliver product & solution educations and technical support documentation - like Redbooks, Drupal articles, ARM assets etc. PEs are working with Developers and Test on defects, hardware, firmware or software upgrades and constantly apply Problem Management to perform Root Cause Analysis(RCA) and apply product improvements. PEs participate actively in Early Ship Programs in preparation for Post GA (General Availability) by traveling onsite or providing remote guidance and support to client and onsite teams.
Responsibilities of this role include using a number of problem reporting tools such as CRS (call reporting system), ODT (object definition table), and CMVC (configuration management version control), as long as the Support tools like CSP(Salesforce), Drupal, ARM, IBM Documents, Retain, PDBug, QMG, Data Mesh, SmartCare, YourLearning, EventCentral(for developing educations and organizing trainings) etc.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise





- 5 – 11 years of relevant industry experience
- Candidate should have minimum 5 years of experience in IBM Power server hardware support.
- Hands on exposure to server servicing is expected.
- Knowledge of server hardware management operations and servicing is required.
- Knowledge of RISC server architecture and features is required to fulfil the requirement.
- Candidates need to have expertise in problem determination and debugging skills related to server hardware.
- In-depth knowledge of system functions like redundancy and availability is desired.
- Candidate should have knowledge about system firmware functionality, upgrade options etc.
- Expertise on different Input/Output adapter features in servers is expected.
- Proven written and verbal communication skills are required.

Preferred Technical and Professional Experience

- Exposure to logical partitioning of servers.
- Knowledge of Processor micropartitioning, Virtual Memory Manager functions, IO adapter virtualization concepts etc.
- Hardware Management Console operations and servicing.
- Knowledge of server operating systems like AIX, Linux, AS400 etc.
- Debugging experience of problems related to host-storage connectivity.
- Problem determination skills related to network problems in servers.
