Job Summary The HVAC Plant Operator is responsible for operating maintaining and troubleshooting heating ventilation air conditioning HVAC and refrigeration systems within a central plant or facility The role ensures optimal environmental conditions and energy efficiency through preventive maintenance and real-time system monitoring Qualification 12th Technical School or Trade Certification in HVAC or Mechanical Systems Preferred Valid HVAC Technician License If required by Local Jurisdiction Preferred Qualification EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification Experience in large-scale central plant operations Knowledge of energy management and sustainability practices Experience Minimum 3 years of experience in HVAC system operation and maintenance Knowledge of building automation systems e g Siemens Johnson Controls Trane Familiarity with mechanical electrical and plumbing MEP systems Ability to read and interpret blueprints schematics and technical manuals Solid problem-solving and decision-making skills Excellent communication and teamwork skills Willingness to work shifts weekends and on-call hours as needed Operate and monitor HVAC equipment such as chillers boilers cooling towers air handling units pumps and control systems Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on all HVAC systems Identify and troubleshoot issues in mechanical electrical and pneumatic systems Adjust and calibrate equipment to maintain desired environmental conditions Record data such as temperature pressure and flow rates for system logs and reporting Respond promptly to emergency calls and system alarms Collaborate with maintenance and engineering staff to support plant operations Comply with all safety and environmental regulations Maintain accurate records of equipment operation maintenance and repairs Recommend system upgrades or replacements when necessary Support energy management initiatives and sustainability practices
