Biomedical Engineer – Medical Equipment Procurement & Lifecycle Management

Job Summary

The Specialty Vet is seeking an experienced Biomedical Engineer to lead the planning, procurement, installation, and lifecycle management of medical equipment for our growing specialty veterinary hospitals. This role is ideal for a qualified with expertise in clinical engineering, medical equipment procurement, and asset management who can ensure our hospitals are equipped with reliable, high-quality technology while maintaining compliance and operational excellence.

You will work closely with clinical, procurement, operations, and facility teams to evaluate, procure, install, maintain, and optimize medical equipment across departments while supporting future expansion projects.

Key ResponsibilitiesMedical Equipment Procurement & Planning

- Collaborate with clinicians and department heads to identify equipment requirements for Surgery, Imaging, ICU, Laboratory, Dental, Anesthesia, and Sterilization.
- Prepare technical specifications and evaluate quotations from multiple vendors.
- Compare equipment based on performance, reliability, total cost of ownership, after-sales support, and clinical suitability.
- Support vendor negotiations, including warranties, AMC/CMC contracts, training, and spare parts.
- Manage procurement timelines and equipment planning for hospital projects.

Installation & Commissioning

- Coordinate delivery, installation, commissioning, and acceptance testing of medical equipment.
- Work with facility and engineering teams to ensure infrastructure readiness, including electrical, gas, ventilation, and safety requirements.
- Ensure all equipment is calibrated,



validated, and ready before clinical operations begin.

Equipment Maintenance & Asset Management

- Develop and manage preventive maintenance schedules for all medical equipment.
- Maintain equipment inventory, asset tagging, calibration records, maintenance history, and lifecycle documentation.
- Perform first-level troubleshooting and coordinate repairs with authorized service providers.
- Monitor equipment performance and minimize downtime through proactive maintenance.

Compliance & Safety

- Ensure compliance with applicable biomedical engineering, electrical safety, and regulatory standards.
- Maintain complete documentation for inspections, maintenance, calibration, and audits.
- Conduct user training for doctors, nurses, and support staff on safe equipment operation and routine care.
- Monitor manufacturer recalls, safety notices, and field updates.

Hospital Expansion Projects

- Support equipment planning and budgeting for future veterinary hospitals and specialty clinics.
- Standardize equipment specifications and vendor partnerships across locations.
- Recommend technology upgrades to improve operational efficiency and patient care.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Engineering, or a related field.
- 3–7 years of experience in biomedical engineering, clinical engineering, healthcare technology management,



or medical equipment procurement.
- Experience in procurement and evaluation of capital medical equipment.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs, asset management systems (CMMS), and equipment lifecycle management.
- Strong project management, analytical, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience working in a veterinary hospital, multispecialty hospital, diagnostic centre, or medical device company.
- Experience with veterinary or human hospital equipment such as imaging systems, anesthesia workstations, surgical equipment, laboratory analyzers, ICU monitoring systems, and sterilization equipment.
- CBET (Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician), CHTM, or similar certification is an advantage.
- Experience in hospital commissioning or greenfield healthcare projects.
- Familiarity with IEC 60601, AERB regulations, and healthcare equipment safety standards.
