Job Purpose
The Assistant Manager – Fire & Life Safety is responsible for ensuring effective fire prevention, fire protection systems, emergency preparedness, and compliance with statutory fire safety regulations within the mall. The role supports safe operations for shoppers, tenants, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
Fire Safety Operations
- Assist in planning, implementing, and monitoring fire & life safety systems across the mall.
- Ensure all fire protection systems (fire alarms, sprinklers, hydrants, pumps, extinguishers, smoke extraction, PA systems) are operational and maintained.
- Conduct regular inspections, audits, and mock drills to assess fire preparedness.
- Supervise fire command centre operations and ensure 24/7 readiness.
Emergency Response
- Act as Incident Controller/Deputy during fire or emergency situations.
- Coordinate evacuation procedures and emergency response with security, engineering, and mall management teams.
- Liaise with local Fire Brigade, Civil Dfense, and emergency services during incidents.
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure compliance with local Fire & Life Safety Acts, NBC, and other statutory requirements.
- Assist in obtaining, renewing, and maintaining Fire NOCs and related approvals.
- Maintain records of inspections, drills,
training, incidents, and equipment maintenance.
Training & Awareness
- Conduct fire safety training and evacuation drills for mall staff, tenants, and contractors.
- Educate tenants on fire safety norms, safe fit-out practices, and emergency procedures.
- Promote a strong fire safety culture across the mall.
Coordination & Supervision
- Supervise fire safety officers and outsourced fire staff.
- Coordinate with engineering teams for corrective and preventive maintenance.
- Review tenant fit-out drawings from a fire safety perspective and ensure compliance.
Risk Management
- Identify fire hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Participate in safety risk assessments and audits.
- Ensure protected handling and storage of flammable materials.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Graduate / Diploma in Fire & Safety, Fire Engineering, or equivalent.
- Experience: 8–10years in Fire & Life Safety, preferably in malls, hotels, airports, hospitals, or large commercial complexes.
- Certifications: Fire Officer Course / Sub-Officer Course preferred.
