About the Role
We are looking for a highly experienced Senior U.S. Bookkeeper to join our growing accounting team. This is not a traditional bookkeeping position and is not an entry-level role.
We are seeking a senior-level professional with strong U.S. bookkeeping experience, critical thinking skills, and the ability to independently research and solve complex accounting and bookkeeping issues. This position serves as a senior resource for the accounting department, assisting Team Leads and the Accounting Manager with complex client situations, technical bookkeeping and accounting issues, and special projects.
The ideal candidate is someone who can think beyond a checklist and independently work through unfamiliar situations. You must be comfortable using company systems, internal databases, software, and available resources to research questions, find answers, and determine the appropriate solution.
This is a U.S. bookkeeping and accounting position. We are specifically seeking an experienced U.S. bookkeeping professional. This is not a tax preparation, wealth management, or financial advisor position.
Every day is different. You may be researching a historical accounting issue, troubleshooting a complex client situation, reviewing financial statements, or assisting with a special project. We are looking for someone who enjoys solving problems and can confidently take ownership of an issue from research through resolution.
This position requires experience managing multiple U.S. clients simultaneously in a fast-paced public accounting environment.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a senior U.S. bookkeeping resource for Team Leads and the Accounting Manager.
- Assist with complex U.S. bookkeeping and accounting matters across multiple clients.
- Review client bookkeeping and financial statements for accuracy, completeness, and reasonableness.
- Complete bookkeeping for complex annual clients, including clients with intercompany transactions and multiple-shareholder businesses.
- Research and resolve state sales tax notices.
- Assist clients with Workers' Compensation and General Liability audits.
- Troubleshoot bookkeeping discrepancies and determine appropriate solutions.
- Research historical accounting questions and unusual client situations.
- Use company systems, internal databases,
software, and available resources to research and resolve questions.
- Assist with special projects and provide support to the Accounting team.
- Take ownership of assigned issues and follow them through to resolution.
Critical Thinking & Independent Problem Solving — Required
This is one of the most key parts of the role. We are looking for someone who can think beyond checklists and does not need to be handed the answer.
You should be able to:
- Independently research and resolve U.S. bookkeeping and accounting questions using available resources.
- Use internal systems, databases, software, and other company resources to find answers.
- Analyze a client situation and determine the appropriate course of action with minimal direction.
- Identify the root cause of bookkeeping discrepancies and accounting issues.
- Research and resolve sales tax notices and other client-related accounting issues.
- Work through unfamiliar or unique client situations logically and confidently.
- Determine when additional information or research is needed.
- Take ownership of a problem and continue researching until an appropriate resolution is identified.
- Clearly explain your reasoning and recommended solution to Team Leads and management.
If your approach to a problem is to immediately ask someone else for the answer without first researching and working through the issue, this is likely not the right position for you.
