Senior Urban Designer / Masterplanner
We’re looking for a Senior Urban Designer / Masterplanner to join our team at WSP. You’ll contribute to the delivery of vibrant, sustainable, and people-centred places across the Middle East, supporting the development of high-quality master plans that respond to the region’s growth, climate, and cultural context.
This is an opportunity to work on large-scale, design-led urban projects while collaborating with urban designers, planners, landscape architects, engineers, and sustainability specialists. You’ll play a key role in developing design solutions, coordinating multidisciplinary inputs, and contributing to design excellence across all project stages.
Responsibilities
What You’ll Be Doing
• Support the delivery of urban design and master planning projects from concept development through to detailed planning stages, ensuring alignment with client requirements, local regulations, and WSP quality standards.
• Develop creative, practical, and sustainable master planning and urban design solutions.
• Prepare urban design reports, drawings, presentations, graphics, and other project documentation.
• Use a range of digital design tools to produce high-quality diagrams, plans, and visual materials that clearly communicate design intent.
• Coordinate with landscape architects, architects, planners, engineers, and environmental specialists to deliver integrated design solutions.
• Participate in workshops, design reviews, stakeholder meetings, and client presentations.
• Contribute to business development activities through technical writing, proposal support, graphics, and bid submissions.
• Provide guidance and support to graduate and junior team members, sharing knowledge and promoting collaboration.
• Stay informed of industry trends, emerging technologies, sustainability initiatives, and best practices in urban design and master planning.
• Assist project managers and design leads in managing programme, deliverables, and quality review processes.
Qualifications
What You’ll Bring
• A degree in Urban Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Planning, or a related discipline; a master’s degree in Urban Design or Masterplanning is preferred.
• Strong professional experience in urban design, master planning, or related fields, ideally with Middle East project experience.
• Solid design and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop innovative and context-responsive urban design solutions.
• Proven experience in preparing master plans, urban design studies, design guidelines, and development frameworks.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, Rhino, and MS Office. Experience with GIS, Power BI, or AI-supported workflows is advantageous.
• Strong graphic communication, report writing, and presentation skills.
• A good understanding of sustainable urbanism, placemaking, and the integration of environmental and landscape systems into urban design.
• Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and managing project deliverables within programme requirements.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience presenting design ideas to clients and project teams.
• Membership of, or progress towards, a recognised professional accreditation or chartership is desirable.
• A proactive, collaborative mindset and a passion for creating inclusive, resilient, and high-quality urban environments.
