A lathe turner, also known as a lathe operator, is a skilled craftsman who uses lathes and other machinery to create precision parts and components from various materials:

- Responsibilities Operate lathes and cutting machines to cut metal or plastic into cylindrical shapes. This includes setting up and adjusting machine controls, speeds, and feed rates.
- Other duties Handle material, measure and mark dimensions, inspect and measure finished workpieces, clean and maintain equipment, and document production.
- Skills and knowledge Should be familiar with lathe machine operation, machine drawings, fits and tolerances, boring, drilling, reaming, threading, and tapping. They should also have knowledge of materials and other machineries.
- Safety requirements Should meet all safety requirements while performing the work. This may include wearing safety glasses, steel toe footwear, protective clothing, and hearing protection.
