Essential Academic Qualifications
Undergraduate Degree: A valid MBBS degree from an institution or medical college recognized by the NMC. [1]
Compulsory Internship: Completion of a one-year rotating internship following the final MBBS examination. [1]
Postgraduate (Feeder) Degree: Candidates must possess a recognized broad-specialty postgraduate medical degree. The currently accepted feeder qualifications include:
MD/DNB in General Medicine
MD/DNB in Paediatrics (specifically for entering DM in Pediatric Nephrology)
Note: The NMC has also set up a panel to evaluate adding MD Tropical Medicine as an eligible feeder qualification. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Mandatory Entrance Examinations
NEET-SS:
Admission to the 3-year DM/DNB course requires candidates to explicit and secure the minimum qualifying percentile in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test – Super Speciality (NEET-SS) exam conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE). [1]
INI-CET SS: For Central Institutes of National Importance (such as AIIMS, PGIMER, and JIPMER), candidates must qualify through the INI-CET Super Speciality entrance exam. [, 2]
Medical Registration Requirements
Permanent Registration: Candidates must hold a valid and permanent registration certificate with the NMC or any State Medical Council before getting admitted to the super-specialty course. [1, 2]
