Key responsibilities
Installation: Install electrical systems, wiring, fixtures, and equipment in recent and existing buildings.
Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on electrical systems to prevent breakdowns and ensure continued functionality.
Repair and troubleshooting: Diagnose and repair electrical problems, often using testing devices to identify and fix malfunctions in components like circuit breakers, motors, and wiring.
Compliance and safety: Ensure all work adheres to local, state, and national safety regulations and building codes, including the National Electrical Code (NEC).
System inspection: Inspect electrical components, such as transformers and fuses, to ensure they are working correctly and safely.
Essential skills and qualifications
Technical knowledge: Solid understanding of electrical systems,
safety standards, and building codes.
Blueprint reading: Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical diagrams, and schematics.
Tool proficiency: Skill in using electrical testing tools and various hand and power tools.
Problem-solving: Valuable troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities to diagnose and fix electrical issues.
Record keeping: Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, and materials used.
Collaboration: Work effectively with other tradespeople, project managers, and clients.
Licensing: Hold a valid electrician license or certification as required by local regulations.
