Under the general direction of the Tax Manager the Tax Specialist 1 coordinates and performs a variety of duties necessary to support the payroll process for multiple clients within multiple states and with the IRS. This person works with the payroll team, our clients and other tax team members to ensure compliance with state and federal agencies for our clients.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Research and respond to complex payroll tax questions received internally or from client
Communicate effectively with clients, internal departments, and occasionally regulatory agencies regarding complex or sensitive matters.
Respond promptly to notices received and audit data requests.
Respond to internal support requests from the Client Services, Implementation, and payroll teams
Maintain and update tax procedure documentation as changes occur.
Recommend process improvements and automation opportunities to management.
Support internal and external clients via phone, email, fax, or live communication.
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to company policies regarding overtime and attendance.
Work with internal teams to ensure continuity of service delivery
Lead adherence to standard practices and client contractual commitments
Participate in cross-departmental initiatives to ensure proper consideration and action of regulatory and tax-impacting changes
Maintain process documents
Complete special projects as assigned by management
Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent
2+ year(s) of payroll tax experience
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Some college coursework
Background in HRO, PEO, or payroll processing firms
Experience with restaurant/tipped employee payroll
