Role Summary A Senior Resident provides supervised surgical and perioperative care for patients with heart and thoracic diseases while participating in emergency services, teaching, and research.
Key Responsibilities
Evaluate and manage preoperative and postoperative cardiac surgery patients.
Assist in and progressively perform cardiothoracic surgical procedures under consultant supervision.
Manage patients in the Cardiac ICU, wards, outpatient department (OPD), and emergency department.
Participate in emergency surgeries and on-call duties.
Perform procedures such as:
Chest tube insertion and management
Central venous catheter placement
Arterial line insertion
Temporary pacing wire management
Wound care and postoperative management
Interpret investigations including ECG, echocardiography reports, chest X-rays, CT scans, and relevant laboratory tests.
Coordinate with anesthesiology,
cardiology, perfusionists, intensivists, and nursing teams.
Teach undergraduate and postgraduate students and participate in academic activities.
Maintain accurate medical records and comply with hospital protocols.
Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and research activities.
Eligibility
MBBS with MS/DNB in General Surgery or MCh/DNB/DrNB in Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery (depending on the institution's recruitment rules). Eligibility varies by hospital and whether the post is in a superspecialty department.
