Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer / Engineer Frame Assembly Line to manage and optimize chassis/frame assembly operations for commercial vehicle manufacturing. The role involves planning and executing production activities, ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards, improving assembly line efficiency, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate should possess strong technical expertise in frame assembly processes, torque-controlled fastening systems, pneumatic and DC tightening tools, conveyorized assembly lines, line balancing, and cross-functional manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & Assembly Line Management
- Plan, organize, and monitor daily frame assembly operations to achieve production targets while maintaining quality, safety, and delivery commitments.
- Ensure optimum utilization of manpower, assembly equipment, tools, fixtures, and production resources for maximum operational efficiency.
- Monitor assembly line performance and implement corrective actions to minimize production losses and downtime.
- Coordinate with Production Planning and Manufacturing teams to ensure smooth material flow and timely execution of production schedules.
Assembly Process Control
- Supervise end-to-end frame/chassis assembly operations, ensuring compliance with engineering drawings, work instructions, and assembly specifications.
- Operate and monitor pneumatic nut runners, DC electric tightening tools, torque-controlled fastening systems, conveyors, and assembly fixtures.
- Ensure correct torque application, fastening sequence, and tightening parameters as per engineering and customer requirements.
- Monitor line balancing, takt time, cycle time, and workstation efficiency to maximize productivity and optimize resource utilization.
Quality Assurance & Process Improvement
- Ensure assembly quality by implementing effective process controls and regular in-process inspections.
- Identify, analyze,
and eliminate assembly defects related to torque, fitment, alignment, missing components, and workmanship.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to reduce rejection, rework, and customer complaints.
- Support internal quality audits, process validation, and implementation of PFMEA, Control Plans, and Layered Process Audits (LPA).
Equipment Maintenance & Reliability
- Coordinate preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of pneumatic systems, DC tools, torque-controlled equipment, conveyors, lifting devices, and assembly fixtures.
- Ensure proper calibration, reliability, and availability of assembly equipment to minimize production downtime.
- Work closely with the Maintenance team to troubleshoot equipment issues and improve operational efficiency.
Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence
- Drive TPM, Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, and 5S initiatives to improve productivity, workplace efficiency, and equipment effectiveness.
- Identify opportunities to reduce assembly cycle time, improve line balancing, optimize manpower utilization, and minimize operational losses.
- Implement process improvements aimed at enhancing productivity, quality, and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
- Participate in new model introduction (NMI), engineering changes, process validation, and production trials.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Collaborate with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, and New Product Development (NPD) teams to ensure seamless production operations.
- Resolve assembly-related issues through effective cross-functional coordination and timely decision-making.
- Support implementation of engineering changes, process modifications, and customer-specific requirements.
Documentation & Compliance
- Prepare and maintain production reports, SOPs, work instructions, process sheets, torque records, maintenance logs, and quality documentation.
- Ensure compliance with IATF 16949 requirements, PFMEA, Control Plans, Layered Process Audits (LPA), and other quality management standards.
- Maintain adherence to company policies, statutory requirements, and manufacturing standards.
Safety, Environment & Workplace Management
- Ensure strict compliance with plant safety procedures and safe operating practices across the assembly line.
- Promote a safe working environment through hazard identification, risk assessment, and corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with workplace discipline, 5S standards, and environmental guidelines.
- Train operators on assembly methods, quality standards, safety procedures, and standard operating practices.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of automotive or commercial vehicle frame/chassis assembly processes.
- Hands-on experience with pneumatic nut runners, DC electric tightening tools, and torque-controlled fastening systems.
- Good understanding of torque sequence, torque auditing, fastening quality, and assembly process controls.
- Experience with conveyorized assembly systems, line balancing, takt time, cycle time, and production planning.
- Working knowledge of PFMEA, Control Plans, Layered Process Audits (LPA), SOPs, and Work Instructions.
- Familiarity with TPM, 5S, Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, OEE, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, assembly specifications, and manufacturing documentation.
