Senior Design Engineer – Sheet Metal Fabrication & Assembly

Location: Surat, Gujarat
Type: Full-time | Individual Contributor (with future team-building scope)

About the Role

As part of a larger Machinery Building company, we’ve a growing sheet metal and structural fabrication division in Surat. We work with steel pipes, sheet metal frames, and welded assemblies using laser cutting, turret punch, press brakes, bending, and welding. We want a sharp design engineer who can rethink how we design parts — to cut material waste, reduce process steps, and make our shop floor more efficient.

What You'll Do

- Redesign existing sheet metal parts and weldments using DFM (Design for Manufacturability) principles
- Reduce material consumption through nesting optimization, gauge rationalization, and smart blank design
- Eliminate or combine processes — fewer hits on turret punch, fewer weld joints, fewer bends
- Create and maintain 3D models and 2D drawings with GD&T;
- Work closely with the shop floor to understand bottlenecks and translate them into design changes
- Build standard design guidelines and a part library for repeat components
- Evaluate and recommend tooling or fixture improvements
- As the business grows, help recruit and mentor junior designers

What We're Looking For

- 6–10 years of hands-on experience in sheet metal design and fabrication engineering
- Solid knowledge of laser cutting, turret punch, press brake, and welding processes
- Proficiency in any professional CAD software.
- Solid understanding of material grades, sheet metal tolerances, and weld joint design
- Experience in DFM, DFMA,



or value engineering projects with measurable outcomes
- Ability to read and create detailed manufacturing drawings with GD&T;
- Bonus: exposure to ERP/BOM management or costing

Pay: ₹1,000,000.00 - ₹1,300,000.00 per year
