Design for Manufacturing (DFM): Optimize designs so they align with shop floor capabilities (e.g., matching designs to available CNC cutting beds, plate-bending capacities, or specific welding setups).

Generate comprehensive Material Lists and BOMs to specify raw materials, hardware, and fasteners needed for the project.

Provide technical support to the purchasing department to ensure the correct grades of metals (carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, etc.) are sourced.

Maintain strict Engineering Change Requests (ECR) and version control logs so the workshop never fabricates using outdated blueprints.

Prepare project job packets, exploded-view diagrams, and technical specifications for shop floor supervisors.

Liaise closely with clients to understand technical requirements and structural specifications.

Work hand-in-hand with shop floor engineers, welding inspectors, and quality assurance teams to resolve unexpected issues during the assembly or welding stages.

CAM & Digital Fabrication: Familiarity with Fusion 360 or CNC programming interfaces (outputting clean files for laser, plasma, or waterjet cutting)





GD&T; (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing): Critical for ensuring that individual fabricated parts fit together perfectly during final assembly.

Welding Symbols & Joint Design: A deep understanding of welding processes (GMAW, GTAW, SMAW) and how to accurately represent weld symbols on drawings.

Material Science: Knowledge of how different metals behave under stress, heat (from welding distortion), and machining operations

 Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical, Production, or Industrial Engineering. Specialized certifications in Drafting and CAD/CAM are highly valued.

 Experience: Ranges from 0–3 years junior drafting roles & designers who handle structural integrity, space optimization, and workflow layouts.

 Mathematical Aptitude: Strong proficiency in industrial geometry, trigonometry, and basic physics to analyze weight distribution and material load limits.
