School Librarian

Key Responsibilities

- Manage the day-to-day operations of the school library.
- Organize, catalogue, and maintain books, journals, digital resources, and other learning materials.
- Foster a love for reading through book clubs, reading programs, author interactions, and literary events.
- Guide students in selecting age-appropriate books and developing research and information literacy skills.
- Collaborate with teachers to support curriculum requirements with relevant library resources.
- Maintain accurate records of book circulation, inventory, and library memberships.
- Plan and conduct library orientation sessions for students and staff.
- Ensure the library is a welcoming, well-organized, and engaging learning space.
- Recommend and procure new books and educational resources based on curriculum needs.
- Promote responsible use of library resources and technology. School librarians typically combine collection management with literacy promotion and instructional support for students and teachers. (Indeed)





Qualifications & Skills

- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Library & Information Science (B.Lib./M.Lib.) or equivalent qualification.
- Prior experience as a school librarian is preferred.
- Strong organizational and cataloguing skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency in library management software and basic computer applications.
- Passion for reading and promoting literacy among students.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, students, and parents.
