A Special Educator (or Special Education Teacher) is a trained instructional professional who adapts and delivers curriculum to students with physical, mental, emotional, or learning disabilities. They modify general education lessons, manage classroom behavior, and build essential life skills to ensure every student has equal access to learning.

- Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs): Create, review, and update legally mandated, customized education plans tailored to each student's unique needs, tracking their progress toward specific milestones. [1, 2]
- Adapt Lesson Plans: Modify standard curriculum materials, grading criteria, and teaching methods (e.g., incorporating visual aids or assistive technology) to make information digestible. [1, 2, 3]




- Provide Specialized Instruction: Teach basic literacy, math, communication, and functional life skills using research-backed sensory or physical interventions. [1, 2, 3]
- Assess and Monitor Performance: Administer assessments to identify learning challenges and gather performance data to adjust instructional strategies. [1, 2]
- Manage Behavior: Implement behavior intervention plans, utilizing de-escalation techniques and positive reinforcement to build a secure learning space. [1, 2, 3]
