JOB DESCRIPTION – PATHOLOGY Department:

Pathology Laboratory

Reports To:

Medical Director / Laboratory Head

Location:

Hospital / Diagnostic Center

POSITION SUMMARY

The Pathologist is responsible for examining and analyzing laboratory specimens to diagnose diseases accurately and support patient treatment. The role includes supervising pathology laboratory operations, validating reports, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring NABH/NABL compliance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES1. Diagnostic & Laboratory Services

- Examine blood, tissue, urine, and body fluid samples
- Analyze biopsy and cytology specimens
- Diagnose diseases through laboratory investigations
- Validate pathology and histopathology reports

2. Histopathology & Cytology

- Perform and interpret histopathology examinations
- Review FNAC and cytology samples
- Identify abnormal or malignant cells

3. Report Validation

- Prepare accurate and timely pathology reports
- Ensure proper documentation and record maintenance
- Communicate critical findings to consultants and clinicians

4. Laboratory Supervision

- Supervise pathology laboratory operations and staff
- Ensure quality control procedures are followed
- Monitor sample handling and testing processes

5. Quality & Compliance

- Ensure NABH/NABL compliance and documentation




- Participate in audits and quality improvement programs
- Maintain infection control and biomedical waste protocols

6. Coordination & Clinical Support

- Coordinate with doctors regarding patient diagnosis and treatment
- Provide expert opinion on laboratory findings
- Assist clinicians in case discussions when required

7. Equipment & Safety

- Ensure proper functioning of laboratory equipment
- Report equipment issues or maintenance requirements
- Follow laboratory safety standards and protocols

QUALIFICATIONS

- MBBS with MD/DNB in Pathology
- Valid Medical Council Registration

EXPERIENCE

- Minimum 1–3 years of experience preferred in hospital or diagnostic laboratory setup

SKILLS REQUIRED

- Solid diagnostic and analytical skills
- Knowledge of histopathology and cytology procedures
- Good communication and reporting skills
- Knowledge of NABH/NABL standards
- Attention to detail and accuracy

WORKING HOURS

- As per hospital duty roster

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs)

- Accuracy of pathology reports
- Timely report generation
- Quality compliance adherence
- Coordination with clinicians
- Laboratory efficiency and safety compliance

Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹50,000.00 per month
