- Donor Screening & Phlebotomy: Determine donor eligibility, record vital signs, and collect blood using protected, sterile techniques. [1, 2]
- Processing & Component Preparation: Separate whole blood into vital components like red blood cells, platelets, and plasma using specialized centrifuges. [1, 2, 3, 4]
- Testing & Compatibility: Perform blood typing, antigen testing, antibody screening, and cross-matching to prevent adverse transfusion reactions. [1, 2, 3]
- Viral & Disease Screening: Test blood units for transmissible infections (e.g., HIV, hepatitis) to ensure patient safety. [1, 2]
- Inventory & Storage: Monitor blood supplies, maintain strict temperature controls, and prepare products for distribution. [1, 2, 3]
- Quality Control: Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment, and perform routine quality checks. [1, 2, 3]
