Junior Chemist – PurificationCore ObjectiveTo execute efficient organic compound separation, purification, and isolation from crude reaction mixtures. This role requires hands-on expertise in setting up traditional manual columns and operating automated flash chromatography systems (e.g., Combiflash) to support R&D; or process development. Key Responsibilities

- Preparative Separation: Execute manual column chromatography and Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) for separating complex chemical mixtures.
- Automated Chromatography: Operate, program, and maintain automated Flash Chromatography systems (e.g., CombiFlash).
- Method Optimization: Develop gradients and optimize mobile-phase solvents based on TLC retention factor (Rf) analysis to ensure maximum yield and purity.
- Sample Preparation: Prepare silica/alumina slurries, dry-load/wet-load samples, and pack columns uniformly to prevent cracking or channeling.
- Fraction Management: Collect and analyze eluted fractions using TLC, UV visualization, or analytical equipment to identify the target product.
- Solvent Recovery:



Safely operate rotary evaporators to recover solvents and concentrate purified compounds.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed, compliant laboratory notebooks and logbooks for all purification runs.
- Lab Safety: Adhere to safety protocols, including the handling of hazardous chemicals and proper disposal of solid and liquid waste.

Essential Qualifications

- Education: B.Sc. in Chemistry.
- Experience: 0 to 2 years of hands-on laboratory experience in an academic or industrial setting.
- Skills: Solid fundamental understanding of compound polarity, adsorption/partition principles, and solvent properties.

Personal Attributes

- Meticulous attention to detail and a high level of patience (vital for packing columns).
- Strong visual acuity for identifying color bands and spotting TLC plates.
