A Civil Draftsman is responsible for preparing accurate technical drawings, layouts, and construction documents for civil engineering projects. They work closely with civil engineers, architects, project managers, and site teams to convert engineering concepts into detailed drawings for execution.

1. Preparation of Technical Drawings

- Prepare detailed civil engineering drawings using CAD software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or Revit.
- Develop plans, elevations, sections, and detailed construction drawings.
- Produce drawings for buildings, roads, drainage systems, bridges, utilities, and other infrastructure projects.
- Prepare site layout and grading plans.

2. Design Documentation

- Convert engineering sketches and calculations into technical drawings.
- Prepare General Arrangement (GA) drawings.
- Create reinforcement detailing (RCC detailing) and structural drawings.
- Prepare foundation, column, beam, slab, and footing drawings.
- Generate shop drawings for construction.

3. Drawing Revisions and Updates

- Modify drawings based on engineer's instructions.
- Incorporate client comments and design revisions.
- Maintain revision history and version control.
- Ensure all drawings are updated before issue.

4. Quantity and Measurement Support

- Assist in quantity take-offs from drawings.
- Support preparation of Bill of Quantities (BOQ).
- Measure dimensions and calculate material quantities.
- Coordinate with estimation teams.

5. Compliance with Standards

- Ensure drawings comply with:
- National Building Code (NBC)
- IS Codes
- Local Development Authority regulations
- Municipal and statutory requirements
- Follow company drafting standards and drawing conventions.

6. Coordination with Project Teams

- Coordinate with:
- Civil Engineers




- Structural Engineers
- Architects
- MEP Engineers
- Surveyors
- Contractors
- Resolve drawing conflicts before construction.

7. Site Coordination

- Provide clarification on construction drawings.
- Assist site engineers during execution.
- Update drawings based on site modifications.
- Prepare As-Built Drawings after project completion.

8. CAD Management

- Maintain drawing templates and libraries.
- Organize drawing files systematically.
- Ensure proper naming and document control.
- Maintain digital backups of drawings.

9. Documentation and Record Keeping

- Maintain drawing registers.
- Track drawing issuance and revisions.
- Archive completed project drawings.
- Prepare drawing transmittals.

10. Quality Assurance

- Check drawings for:
- Accuracy
- Dimensions
- Scale
- Coordinates
- Symbols
- Notes
- Ensure drawings are free from drafting errors before release.

11. Software Proficiency

A Civil Draftsman should be proficient in:

- AutoCAD
- Civil 3D
- Revit (BIM)
- MicroStation (where applicable)
- SketchUp (optional)
- MS Excel
- MS Word
- PDF editing software

12. Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance

- Follow organizational safety procedures.
- Ensure drawings include required safety features.
- Support sustainable and environmentally compliant designs.
- Maintain confidentiality of project documents.
