Sanitation and Health Rights in India
India
About SHRI:
Sanitation and Health Rights in India (SHRI) is a mission-driven organization advancing equitable access to sanitation, hygiene, and public health services across India through rights-based, community-centered approaches. SHRI partners with domestic and international donors and is committed to the highest standards of financial integrity, compliance, and transparency.
SHRI's Delivery Model:
Across India each day, millions of people depend on shared toilets in public and community spaces. These shared toilets are essential, especially for people without a private household toilet. However, without adequate maintenance and management, these toilets can quickly become unsafe, unhygienic, and unusable, especially for women, young children, and other vulnerable users.
SHRI directly addresses this gap by partnering with local governments and communities to rehabilitate existing shared toilets and then establishes the systems needed to keep them clean, functional, and accessible over the long term. These systems are built around robust training, operations and maintenance (O&M;),
and ongoing monitoring, including:
Training and supervising dedicated cleaning and management staff recruited from the community.
Implementing best practice operating procedures and quality assurance protocols.
Collecting and analyzing real-time data on facility use, cleanliness, uptime, and maintenance needs.
Deploying independent spot checkers to verify facility conditions and protocol compliance.
Reporting key performance indicators on SHRI's public dashboard to maintain accountability to service standards. SHRI currently operates 37 sanitation facilities in Jharkhand and Bihar, maintaining approximately 97% uptime and serving over 11,000 daily users.
Role Summary
The Director of Finance will provide strategic and operational leadership over SHRI’s financial management, compliance, accounting, and internal control systems, with responsibility for managing all donor funding.
