Opportunity International Australia

India

We are looking for a contract Digital Innovation Specialist to support our mission to help break the cycle of poverty. Reporting to the Operations & Innovation Director, Health Finance, you will support the design, build and rollout of digital systems for a distributed team of 10, which works closely with 10-15 financial inclusion partners across Asia and Africa.

The Highlights

- 12-month fixed-term contract, based in India, Bangladesh or Nepal
- The first role of its kind on a small, growing and entrepreneurial global health programs team
- Support a team of 10 that works with 10-15 financial inclusion partners across Asia and Africa

The Organisation

Opportunity International Australia is a mission-driven not-for-profit organisation dedicated to empowering families, particularly women, to break the cycle of poverty through sustainable economic inclusion.

Opportunity Health Finance is our newest global program pillar, and works with microfinance institution (MFI) partners across multiple countries to expand access to essential health services and health financing for underserved communities. As the program scales, we are investing in the digital infrastructure and tools that will underpin our next phase of growth.

The Role

The Digital Innovation Specialist is a newly created role — the first of its kind on our team — for an early-career technologist who wants their work to translate directly into better outcomes for families accessing health financing in South Asia and Africa. Reporting to our Operations & Innovation Director, you will support the design, build and rollout of digital systems for a distributed team of 10, which works closely with 10-15 financial inclusion partners across Asia and Africa. You'll be joining a small, growing and entrepreneurial team at an early and ambitious stage of building out this program, where there's plenty of scope to shape how the role and its tools develop over time.

You will play a hands-on role building internal tools and dashboards through vibe coding (building working software with the support of AI coding tools rather than from scratch), including tools such as multi-country partner budget trackers, and supporting the rollout of new platforms that connect our global team. You will also help build agents that automate internal workflows, and help our team get more out of AI tools like Claude to free up more time for partner-facing and program work.

This is a great opportunity for someone early in their digital or technology career who wants hands-on experience building real tools for a global health and financial inclusion mission, with close support and mentoring from the Operations & Innovation Lead.

Core role responsibilities

- Build and maintain internal tools and dashboards through vibe coding, including multi-country program management tools
- Help build agents that automate internal workflows and reporting
- Assist with the rollout of new internal platforms and systems as the Health Finance program scales
- Help identify simple, practical opportunities to use AI tools (including Claude) to automate internal processes and reporting
- Work with team members based in Australia and South Asia to understand day-to-day workflow needs across the team and our 10-15 partners
- Help track and coordinate digital projects across the team, keeping timelines, priorities and stakeholders organised
- Help create clear documentation and provide basic training and support so colleagues can adopt new tools with confidence

Desired skills and qualifications

- A tertiary qualification in a relevant field (information systems, computer science, digital innovation or similar), or equivalent demonstrated interest and aptitude
- Some hands-on exposure to vibe coding or building with AI-assisted development tools, whether through study, personal projects or work experience
- Experience with or strong interest in Claude Code or Claude Cowork and building connectors to Microsoft suite preferred
- An interest in or early experience building simple automations or agents to streamline workflows
- Curiosity about using AI tools to streamline everyday processes
- Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn on the job
- A PMO mindset — comfortable tracking multiple projects, priorities and stakeholders in an organised way
- Valuable communication skills, with the ability to work across a distributed, multicultural team
- Comfort working in a small, growing and entrepreneurial team environment based in India, Bangladesh or Nepal, with the flexibility to help shape the role as it evolves

- A strong alignment with the mission and values of Opportunity International Australia
