About the Role

We are looking for a skilled XML Specialist with experience in book and journal publishing to develop, validate, and maintain structured XML content. The ideal candidate should possess strong technical knowledge of XML technologies, publishing DTDs, and content conversion workflows, while ensuring high levels of quality, accuracy, and compliance with publisher specifications.

Key Responsibilities

- Convert and structure book and journal content into XML in accordance with publisher and client specifications.
- Create, edit, and maintain XML documents using standard publishing DTDs and schemas.
- Perform accurate XML tagging and content structuring to ensure consistency and compliance with publishing standards.
- Validate XML files against DTDs, schemas, and business rules, identifying and resolving validation errors.
- Work with industry-standard publishing DTDs such as JATS, DocBook, and client-specific XML models.
- Conduct quality assurance checks to verify the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of XML content.
- Troubleshoot and resolve XML conversion, tagging, and formatting issues.
- Collaborate with Editorial, Digital Production, Project Management, and Technology teams to ensure seamless workflow integration and timely project delivery.
- Maintain project documentation and adhere to established production processes, quality standards, and client requirements.
- Contribute to workflow improvements, automation initiatives,



and process optimization to enhance productivity and quality.

Required Skills

- Minimum 2 years of experience in XML production within the publishing or ePublishing industry.
- Strong knowledge of XML, DTDs, XML schemas, and structured content tagging.
- Hands-on experience with book and journal XML workflows.
- Familiarity with publishing standards such as JATS, DocBook, and client-specific DTDs.
- Proficiency with XML editing tools such as Oxygen XML Editor, XMLSpy, or equivalent applications.
- Experience validating XML files and resolving structural and syntax errors.
- Good understanding of publishing workflows and content conversion processes.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Valuable communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Skills

- Experience with XSLT, XPath, XQuery, or related XML technologies.
- Exposure to automation tools, scripting, or macros for XML processing.
- Familiarity with HTML, CSS, EPUB, and digital publishing workflows.
- Basic understanding of accessibility standards and semantic content structuring.
- Experience working with international publishers and STM or educational publishing content.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in any discipline.
- Candidates with a technical, publishing, or computer science background will be preferred.
