Job Descritpion of Design Principles

6 to 8 Years Relevant Experience

We are looking for an experienced Mainframe Automation Engineer with robust expertise in CA-OPS/MVS and related system automation frameworks. This role involves designing, building, and maintaining automated operations routines for mainframe environments, aiming to improve system reliability, reduce manual intervention, and enhance error handling and incident response.

Key Responsibilities:

OPS/MVS Automation:

- Design and implement automated operations routines, including IPL (Initial Program Load), system startup, and shutdown procedures.
- Upgrade and customize the CA-OPS/MVS automation product to meet evolving infrastructure needs.
- Utilize and configure advanced OPS/MVS components such as:
- AOF – Automated Operations Facility
- COF – CICS Operations Facility
- ECF – Enhanced Console Facility
- EPI – External Product Interface
- HWS – Hardware Services
- IOF – IMS Operations Facility
- MSF – Multi-System Facility
- OSF – Operator Server Facility
- POI – Programmable Operations Interface
- RDF – Relational Data Framework
- SOF – Switch Operations Facility
- SSM – System State Manager

Automation Optimization:

- Leverage mainframe automation to:
- Enhance service delivery
- Reduce manual intervention
- Expand and improve error detection and resolution processes

- Provide consulting and support for mainframe automation involving CA-OPS/MVS, Control-M, and TWS/OPC.
- Integrate monitoring tools (e.g., Tivoli, SYSVIEW) as inputs for automated problem resolution.
- Interface with external systems like BEM (Business Event Manager)



for incident and problem management workflows.

Scripting and Customization:

- Develop and maintain extensive REXX scripts to automate and streamline operations.

IBM System Automation Responsibilities:

- Define and manage automation elements including Flags, Goals, Groups, and Status.
- Configure and maintain Service Periods, Event Triggers, and Error Thresholds.
- Manage automation for IPL routines, service dependencies, and system prerequisites.
- Handle Message Automation and Operator Management within automated environments.
- Control Suspend/Resume operations for automated services during planned or unplanned changes.

Desired Skills & Experience:

- Extensive hands-on experience with CA-OPS/MVS and IBM System Automation.
- Strong knowledge of REXX scripting, mainframe job scheduling tools (Control-M, TWS/OPC).
- Experience with system startup automation, error handling, and incident management integration.
- Proficiency in managing complex multi-system environments using automation.
- Familiarity with mainframe monitoring tools such as Tivoli, SYSVIEW, and integration with incident management platforms.
