Avya Technology is looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer (Backend – PHP, WordPress, Shopify) to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have strong backend development experience in PHP, WordPress, WooCommerce, and Shopify, with the ability to create efficient, secure, and scalable web solutions. You will be responsible for developing and optimizing CMS and eCommerce platforms while collaborating closely with front-end teams to deliver high-quality products.

Responsibilities

As a key member of our team, you will:

- Develop and maintain custom WordPress plugins and themes following coding standards (including HOOKS concepts).
- Customize and integrate third-party plugins such as WooCommerce and other eCommerce extensions.
- Build and manage Shopify apps and custom features.
- Work on backend logic, database structures, and API integrations for high-performance systems.

- Implement payment gateways, shipping modules, and eCommerce functionality.
- Optimize website performance, scalability, and database efficiency.
- Collaborate with designers, front-end developers, and QA teams to deliver seamless experiences.
- Use Git/Bitbucket for version control and code management.

Skills & Abilities

Must-Have Skills





- Strong experience with PHP and backend WordPress development (themes & plugins).
- Hands-on experience with WooCommerce and Shopify development/customization.
- Strong knowledge of MySQL, database design, and query optimization.
- Understanding of RESTful APIs and data formats (JSON, XML).
- Experience using Git/Bitbucket for version control.
- Ability to write clean, maintainable, and optimized code.
- Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Valuable-to-Have Skills

- Experience with Headless WordPress, Next.js, or React integrations.
- Familiarity with Shopify Hydrogen, GraphQL, or contemporary eCommerce APIs.
- Knowledge of server management, CI/CD pipelines, and Docker environments.

Soft Skills

Solid problem-solving and debugging mindset. Good communication and collaboration across teams. Attention to detail with a focus on clean, maintainable code.
