A Duty Medical Officer (DMO) is a doctor responsible for providing immediate medical care to patients, usually in hospitals, clinics, or emergency settings during assigned shifts.

Core Responsibilities

- Patient Care: Examine patients, diagnose illnesses, and provide treatment.
- Emergency Handling: Manage urgent and life-threatening cases in casualty or ER.
- Ward Rounds: Monitor admitted patients and update treatment plans.
- Medical Procedures: Perform basic procedures like suturing, IV line insertion, catheterization, etc.
- Prescriptions: Write and review medications based on diagnosis.
- Coordination: Work with nurses, specialists, and other healthcare staff.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate patient records and case sheets.
- Referrals: Refer patients to specialists when needed.

Work Environment

- Hospitals
- Clinics or nursing homes




- Emergency departments
- Often involves shift work, including nights and weekends

Qualifications

- MBBS degree (minimum requirement)
- Registration with a medical council TNMC (e.g. State Medical Council or NMC in India)
- Internship completion
- Basic life support (BLS) or advanced life support (ACLS) training is often preferred

Pay: ₹45,500.00 - ₹50,000.00 per month
