About the Position
We seek highly motivated Field Investigators for an ICSSR Family and Family Systems in India (2025-
2026) project titled “Relocation as a Strategy of Kinship Survival: An Ethnographic Study of Mixed-
Ethnicity in Manipur” led by Dr Soibam Haripriya. The position will contribute to critical discussions
on family formations, with a focus on mixed-ethnicity and conflict. This role provides an exciting
prospect to engage in ethnographic fieldwork research at the interstices of family and kinship studies,
migration and identity. With the primary objective of contributing to the development of a sociological
theory of understanding mixed-ethnicity family formations, the project aims to study the processes of
identity formation and its articulations and strategies adopted for retaining the family and relatedness
in the face of conflict.
Role Overview
The Field Investigator will be responsible for conducting an ethnographic study of mixed families and
conducting interviews
Responsibilities
1. Using purposive sampling and simple snowball sampling to reach out to possible informants
for the project.
2. Conducting an ethnographic field study consisting of open-ended interviews based on the
provided Interview Schedule. Transcribing the transcripts of the interviews and writing an
ethnography of the field.
Who can apply
1. Postgraduate in Social Sciences discipline (55% minimum)
2. Fluency in English and/or any of the Kuki-Chin-Mizo-Paite languages is a must.
3. Experience in conducting ethnographic fieldwork is an advantage
