Job Description:
- AVID is an elective class that prepares students in the academic middle for success in college and the career of their choice. Under the guidance of the AVID teacher, the role of an AVID tutor is to promote a collaborative environment in which small groups of students discuss higher-level questions in order to develop a greater understanding of content from their classes.
- Hours will vary, but typically AVID tutors work in middle schools or high schools two or three days per week.
- $16.00-$18.00 per hour.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must be currently enrolled in college, have evidence of previous college work, or possess a college degree.
- A strong math and/or English background is encouraged.
- Must be able to lead small groups of students.
- Must be available to work during school hours in 2-3 hour increments or work for the majority of the school day.
Essential Job Duties:
- Facilitate the tutorial learning process and implement AVID methodologies.
- Serve as a role model for AVID students in behavior, attire, and work ethic.
- Become familiar with the specific routines and expectations of each AVID teacher’s classroom.
- Monitor student progress during tutorials and provide feedback to students and teachers.
- Assist students in maintaining the AVID binder with a calendar, assignment sheets, tutorial worksheets, and daily Cornell Notes/focused notes in all academic classes.
- Be positive and qualified at all times.
- When possible, participate in AVID field trips, motivational activities, and Site Team meetings.
- Other duties as assigned by the AVID Site Coordinator or AVID teacher, relevant to the program and student progress.
