- Content Review: Editors review written material, including articles, reports, books, marketing copy, and more, to ensure it is error-free and meets quality standards
- Grammar and Language: They correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, and syntax errors to ensure that the content is grammatically correct and flows smoothly
- Style and Consistency: Editors ensure that the content follows a consistent writing style or adheres to a specific style guide, such as the Associated Press (AP) style or Chicago Manual of Style
- Structure and Clarity: Editors improve the overall structure and flow of the content, making it explicit, concise, and logical
- They may reorganize paragraphs or sentences for better readability




- Fact-Checking: In journalism and non-fiction writing, editors verify the accuracy of facts, sources, and references
- Content Development: In some cases, editors work closely with writers to develop content ideas, improve narrative flow, and suggest revisions to enhance the content's overall quality
- Proofreading: Editors conduct a final proofread to catch any remaining errors before publication
- This is often the last stage of editing
