SRE L2 Engineer (Application Operations – .NET / IIS / SQL)

Job Summary

The SRE L2 Engineer is responsible for ensuring the stability, availability, and performance of production applications built on the Microsoft technology stack (.NET, IIS, SQL Server). The role focuses on L2 production support, advanced troubleshooting, and proactive reliability engineering to minimise incidents and improve operational efficiency.

The engineer acts as a bridge between support, infrastructure, and development teams, ensuring seamless application operations and adherence to defined SLOs.

Key Responsibilities

Application Operations & Support

- Manage day-to-day application operations for .NET-based applications hosted on IIS and backed by SQL Server
- Ensure high availability, performance, and reliability of production environments
- Monitor application health (availability, latency, errors, capacity) and take proactive actions
- Perform deployment support, configuration, and environment management for applications

Incident & Problem Management

- Perform L2-level troubleshooting for incidents escalated from L1
- Handle P1/P2 incidents with ownership, drive service restoration within SLA timelines
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement permanent fixes or workarounds
- Participate in on-call support / 24×7 rotation ➡ L2 support focuses on resolving complex issues and ensuring rapid service restoration

Monitoring & Reliability Engineering

- Configure and manage application monitoring, alerting, and dashboards
- Analyse logs, metrics,



and traces to detect performance or stability issues
- Contribute to SLO/SLI adherence and error budget tracking
- Drive proactive incident elimination and reliability improvements ➡ SREs ensure reliability through monitoring, automation, and performance optimisation

Technical Operations – IIS & SQL

- Manage IIS web servers:

Website/application configuration

Deployment and updates

SSL certificate management

Performance tuning and troubleshooting

- Administer SQL Server databases:

Query optimisation and performance tuning

Troubleshooting database issues

Monitoring database health and capacity

- Analyse application logs and system behaviour for issue diagnosis ➡ IIS, SQL monitoring, troubleshooting, and deployment are core operational responsibilities

Automation & Continuous Improvement

- Develop scripts/tools (PowerShell / C#) to reduce operational toil
- Identify recurring issues and implement automation or permanent fixes
- Support CI/CD and release validation activities ➡ SRE emphasises automation to improve scalability and reduce manual operations

Collaboration & Documentation

- Work closely with development, infrastructure, and DB teams for issue resolution
- Maintain runbooks, SOPs,



and knowledge articles
- Provide inputs for system improvements and architectural fixes

Skill Requirements

Core Technical Skills

- Solid experience in.NET / ASP.NET applications
- Hands-on experience with: IIS (Internet Information Services) Microsoft SQL Server (querying, tuning, troubleshooting)
- Knowledge of: Windows Server environments

Application deployment and configuration

Log analysis and debugging

Observability using solutions such as Splunk

SRE / Operations Skills

- Experience in production support (L2)
- Strong understanding of: Incident, Problem, and Change Management (ITIL)\\r\\no Monitoring and observability tools

Performance tuning and capacity management

- Familiarity with: SLO / SLA / Error Budget concepts Automation and scripting

Soft Skills

- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work under pressure during major incidents
- Effective communication with technical and business stakeholders
- Collaborative mindset across cross-functional teams

Other Requirements

Experience & Qualifications

- 3–6 years of experience in Application Support / SRE / Production Support
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science / IT or related field
- Experience in enterprise-scale production environments preferred
