- Daily Rounds: Evaluate patient vitals, monitor recovery, and adjust care in line with consultant instructions.
- Recent Admissions: Take medical histories, perform physical examinations, and prepare comprehensive notes for incoming or pre-operative patients.
- Minor Procedures: Perform tasks such as wound dressing, suture removal, catheterization, and IV insertions. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Emergency Response
- First Responder: Act as the first point of contact for acute clinical issues and medical emergencies within the ward.
- Stabilization: Initiate immediate stabilization, order stat investigations, and lead resuscitation efforts while awaiting the senior consultant. [1, 2, 3]
Documentation & Administration
- Patient Charts: Maintain up-to-date and accurate patient case sheets, prescription logs,
and fluid charts.
- Discharge Summaries: Prepare detailed discharge summaries, ensuring they are signed and ready for the patient.
- Consents: Counsel patients and their relatives regarding ward procedures and fill out formal consent forms. [1, 2, 3]
Coordination & Communication
- Team Liaison: Serve as the bridge between consultants, nursing staff, and the patient's relatives.
- Updates: Escalate critical lab results or sudden deteriorations in patient health to the primary consultant immediately.
