Safety Officer

Safety Officer

Qualification
- B.E./B.Tech/Diploma in Mechanical, Industrial, Safety or related Engineering
discipline.
- Diploma/Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety (ADIS/PDIS), NEBOSH is
mandatory.
- Certification in First Aid and Fire Safety will be an added advantage.
Experience
- 36 years of experience as a Safety Officer in a manufacturing industry.
- Experience in engineering, metal processing, automotive, or knife manufacturing
industries is preferred.
- Hands-on knowledge of the Factories Act, Industrial Safety standards, and
statutory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Management
- Ensure implementation of all EHS policies and safety procedures across the
plant.
- Conduct daily safety inspections and identify unsafe acts and unsafe conditions.
- Monitor compliance with PPE usage and safety regulations.
- Ensure safe work practices in production, maintenance, warehouse, utility, and
contractor work areas.
Risk Assessment
- Conduct Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA).
- Prepare Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for critical activities.
- Recommend corrective and preventive actions to eliminate workplace hazards.
- Monitor implementation of safety improvements.
Incident Management
- Investigate accidents, near misses, first aid cases, and unsafe conditions.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain accident investigation reports and safety records.
- Conduct incident review meetings with department heads.
Fire & Emergency Management
- Ensure proper maintenance and inspection of fire extinguishers, hydrants,
alarms, and emergency equipment.
- Conduct mock drills and emergency evacuation exercises.
- Coordinate with local Fire & Rescue Services whenever required.
Safety Training
- Conduct safety induction training for new employees, apprentices, trainees, and
contractors.
- Organize periodic safety awareness programs and toolbox talks.
- Conduct training on PPE usage, emergency response, machine safety, and safe
lifting practices. Machine & Workplace Safety
- Verify machine guarding and interlock systems.
- Ensure safe operation of presses, grinding machines, CNC machines, heat
treatment equipment, polishing machines, buffing machines, injection moulding machines, and material handling equipment.
- Monitor electrical safety and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) practices during
maintenance activities.
Contractor Safety
- Ensure contractor employees comply with plant safety requirements.
- Verify contractor safety documentation and work permits.
- Monitor hot work, work at height, confined space entry, and electrical work
permits.
Statutory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable Factory Safety Regulations and EHS
requirements.
- Maintain statutory safety records, registers,
and documentation.
- Coordinate with government authorities during inspections and audits.
- Support internal and external safety audits.
Environmental Responsibilities
- Monitor waste disposal practices.
- Ensure secure handling and storage of chemicals, oils, lubricants, and hazardous
materials.
- Promote environmental compliance and good housekeeping (5S).
Safety Reporting
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly EHS reports.
- Track safety KPIs such as:
- Near Miss Reports
- First Aid Cases
- Lost Time Injuries (LTI)
- Unsafe Acts & Conditions
- PPE Compliance
- Training Conducted
- Corrective Action Closure
Required Skills
- Thorough knowledge of industrial safety practices.
- Valuable understanding of manufacturing processes and machine safety.
- Knowledge of Fire Safety, Electrical Safety, LOTO, Work Permit System, and
Risk Assessment.
- Robust analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and training skills.
- Ability to conduct audits and prepare reports.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Knowledge
- ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management System.
- 5S, Kaizen, and Continuous Improvement practices.
- Emergency response planning.
- Safety audit methodologies.
