Senior Developer

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Developer to join the Digital IT organization at Black Veatch This role focuses primarily on designing building and improving backend capabilities for LLMbased agents retrievalaugmented generation RAG document processing image processing ETL workflows APIs reusable services and data pipelines that support modern digital products

You will work across application development data engineering and AIenabled automation taking ownership of complex backend components and helping shape practical patterns for production use This role is well suited for a backendoriented senior generalist with several years of software engineering experience who can move between agent workflows RAG patterns document and image ingestion transformation logic integrations and production service development while keeping reliability maintainability security and usability in mind

The Team

This role sits within the DIT Digital Products team which enables Black Veatchs people projects and businesses through practical digital products application capabilities data analytics and AIenabled solutions Our teams build software using agile productoriented ways of working with a strong focus on quality security reliability usability and longterm maintainability

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Software Developer you will Design develop and maintain productionready backend services that power AIenabled digital products and internal tools

Build and evolve LLMbased agents RAG workflows and toolcalling patterns

Evaluate AI workflow quality retrieval effectiveness prompt behavior and output consistency using testing diagnostics and feedback loops

Develop pipelines and services for document ingestion parsing classification extraction transformation and output generation

Work with image processing and multimodal document workflows including OCR metadata extraction content enrichment and downstream automation

Build and maintain ETL and data transformation workflows for structured semistructured and unstructured content

Develop backend services using TypeScript Python and related frameworks





Build APIdriven microservices and integrations that connect agents applications data sources and downstream systems

Package services and workflows for reliable deployment using containerized applications where appropriate

Collaborate with product application data and cloud engineers to define schemas prompts tools APIs data contracts SDKs and reusable components

Provide technical guidance to other developers by reviewing designs sharing implementation patterns and helping teams make pragmatic architecture decisions

Partner with application and cloud engineers to integrate capabilities into products deployment flows and operational processes

Support observability diagnostics monitoring and quality checks for agent workflows document pipelines ETL jobs and backend services

Identify and resolve integration reliability and performance issues that affect application delivery and userfacing workflows

Contribute to documentation examples and shared patterns that help application teams adopt capabilities effectively

This role is a senior individual contributor position for a handson software developer who can independently deliver complex backend systems influence technical direction and help application teams turn AI documentprocessing and data capabilities into reliable product features

Application teams can more easily use AI agent RAG documentprocessing ETL and integration capabilities in their products

Document ingestion storage transformation and workflow processing flows are well structured observable and resilient

Application engineers can adopt reusable capabilities examples and integration patterns with minimal friction

Document schemas prompts data contracts APIs and reusable patterns are clear documented and consistently used across application workflows

Integration and workflow defects that slow application delivery are reduced





You are recognized as a trusted senior contributor who helps application teams turn AI documentprocessing and data capabilities into working product features while raising the quality and maintainability of shared implementation patterns

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Computer Science Engineering or a related field or equivalent practical experience

5 years of professional software engineering experience including experience delivering backend services or dataintensive applications in production environments

Familiarity with AIenabled application patterns such as RAG promptdriven workflows LLM integrations or agentbased automation

Strong experience building backend services using TypeScript andor Pytho
