Video Editor (Contract) — Value at Void

We produce content about art, design, and the thinking behind both, hosted by our founder. The footage is there. What we need is someone who knows how to make it impossible to scroll past.

This is a contract role for an editor who has taste. Someone who can take 3 minutes of raw, unscripted talking-head footage and cut it down to a 60-second reel that earns the viewer's next 10 minutes.

You're not just trimming, you're building tension, pacing a story, and deciding what lands.

Responsibilities

- Edit raw footage into short-form content for Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and LinkedIn.
- Cut 2–3 minute recordings into 60-second edits that open with a hook and hold attention throughout.
- Add motion graphics, captions, and visual overlays that elevate the content, not decorate it.
- Select and cut to the best moments, you understand what makes a viewer stop, watch, and share.
- Deliver platform-ready exports in the correct formats and specs.
- Maintain a consistent visual language across all edits that aligns with the VAV brand.

Requirements

- A portfolio or reel of short-form video edits, talking-head or documentary style preferred.
- Strong instinct for pacing, hooks, and storytelling through cuts.
- Proficiency in Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro (mandatory).



After Effects is a strong plus.
- Positive graphic design sense, you can create or source visuals that add meaning, not noise.
- An eye for what looks good on screen: framing, colour grading, typography in motion.
- Experience editing content in the art, design, culture, or creative industry space is a plus.
- Ability to work with minimal direction and deliver on time, consistently.

What This Isn't A role for editors who apply the same template to every video. If your edits all look the same regardless of the content, this isn't the right fit. We need someone who watches the footage and finds the story, not someone who just applies a preset and exports.
