Overview:
Lead Fastenal’s Enterprise Search & Analytics team in designing and evolving scalable, high-performance search solutions using Elasticsearch. You’ll drive architecture decisions, mentor engineers, and ensure delivery of impactful, secure, and compliant systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

Architect and evolve enterprise-wide search platforms.

Lead technical design, code reviews, and mentoring.

- Design and develop the technical architecture and roadmap for enterprise search solutions, focusing on relevance, scalability, and performance.
- Implement advanced search algorithms including vector search, hybrid search (text + semantic), and AI-enhanced retrieval techniques.
- Leverage large-scale product datasets to build intelligent search experiences using cutting-edge technologies and models.
- Collaborate with application owners and Business Analysts to translate business requirements into innovative search features and solutions.
- Develop high-quality, scalable, and reusable code following the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) process.
- Conduct peer code reviews, support production systems, and resolve bugs with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Ensure strict adherence and compliance with international standards like Payment Card Industry – Data Security Standards (PCI-DSS), European Union's General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and other Company and Government policies.
- Mentor junior developers and contribute to a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence.





REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in search technologies including Elasticsearch, Lucene/Solr, and experience with cloud-native environments (Azure, Docker, Terraform).
- Robust understanding of RESTful API design and JSON-based services.
- Proficiency in writing complex queries and working with large-scale datasets.
- Experience with relational databases (e.g., Oracle) and SQL.
- Hands-on development experience in Java, Spring Boot, Python, and PySpark.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.

- Ability to pass the required drug screen and background check (applicable in the US, Puerto Rico, and Guam ONLY).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Expertise in specialized areas such as machine learning, natural language processing, text mining, search recommendation systems, computational linguistics.
- Experience building real-time data ingestion pipelines using big data / streaming technologies like Kafka, Spark, Hadoop etc.
- Experience with semantic search,



and hybrid search architectures. Demonstrate strong understanding of bulk indexing, search, schema design, information retrieval and relevance tuning, human (natural) language parsing.
- Familiarity with AI/ML models for search enhancement, including OpenAI and NLP-based ranking systems.
- Prior experience documenting APIs and building developer-friendly interfaces.
- Understanding of Agile SCRUM methodology, test-driven development, and CI/CD practices.
- Knowledge of SDLC, version control systems, and modern DevOps practices.
- Experience with the following technologies: Java, Spring Boot, Python, PySpark, Azure, Databricks, Terraform, Elasticsearch, OpenAI.
