About us Pragati Defence is one of India's leading armour systems manufacturers. We make body armour, ballistic plates, helmets and shields for the Indian Army, the Air Force, DRDO, special forces and police organisations, and we export to nine countries. We are one of very few Indian companies that makes its own ballistic materials rather than importing them.
Our in-house non-woven UHMWPE line is the foundation of that — it is what lets us control performance, cost and supply. The role We are looking for a Textile Engineer who has actually run a non-woven fabric line — not supervised one from an office.
You will own the line: its output, its consistency, and its improvement. Ballistic fabric is unforgiving. Areal density, resin content and lamination quality decide whether a plate stops a round or does not. This is a role where precision has consequences. What you will do
Run day-to-day production on the non-woven / UD line — set-up, changeovers, running parameters, output
Control the process variables that drive ballistic performance: areal density (GSM), resin content, web uniformity, tension, temperature, pressure and line speed
Hold quality to specification — GSM consistency, peel strength, thickness, defect rate — and investigate deviations to root cause
Plan preventive maintenance with the maintenance team and minimise unplanned downtime
Improve yield and reduce waste; drive down cost per square metre
Work with R&D; on new material constructions and trial runs, and take them from trial to stable production
Maintain batch records, traceability and process documentation to BIS and customer audit standards
Train and develop line operators Essential Degree or diploma in Textile Engineering / Textile Technology (or closely related)
3+ years hands-on experience running a non-woven fabric line — needle-punch, spunbond, meltblown, thermal bond, or unidirectional (UD) lamination
Practical command of non-woven process parameters and their effect on fabric properties
Ability to read and work to technical specifications, and to run a structured investigation when the line drifts
Comfortable on the shop floor, with operators, every day Desirable Experience with UHMWPE, aramid or other high-performance fibres
Exposure to technical textiles, ballistic materials, composites or laminates
Familiarity with BIS / IS 17051, NIJ or other performance standards
Experience commissioning a new line or scaling one up
QMS exposure — ISO 9001, SPC, batch traceability
Why this role is worth your time
You will own a line, not a shift. Small, rapid company — your decisions land the same week.
Rare technical ground. Very few people in India have run a ballistic UHMWPE line. You would be one of them.
The work matters. What leaves our factory is worn by soldiers and police officers.
We are scaling. New capacity, new certifications, export markets. The scope of this role grows with the company.
