Designed or (contributed extensively) to an automation framework that configures hypervisor hosts (preferably KVM based) and guest VMs at scale, from bare-metal bootstrap through host config to VM and Image lifecycle management. Someone senior and comfortable enough to propose and defend the architectural decisions around this automation, not just describe the usage.

Core hypervisor experience

- Hands-on production experience with ESXi (not just exposure to "VMware" in an Ops/Support type setting) - vSphere API/ vrOPS, PowerCLI usage etc. (or)
- Expertise in at least one KVM-based platform in production: Proxmox, oVirt, Morpheus, OpenStack/libvirt-based, etc.
- Evidence of managing and setting-up such hypervisor hosts at scale (100s–1000s of hosts), not a few centralised boxes.

Declarative / IaC signals

- Used declarative, idempotent tooling or programming to configure hypervisor hosts/define VM state as code and reconcile drift – Building automation that talks directly to hypervisor-native APIs (vSphere, Proxmox, KVM/libvirt) or CLIs and not publiccloud provider resources.
- Demonstrates testing and plan-before-apply/dry-run style discipline before changes hit production hosts.
- Git repo structure experience - state files, modules,



environments (Mentions of drift detection / reconciliation) not just "I click apply and something that is built by another team gets triggered" - They must demonstrate a valuable understand of how the automating flow around the hypervisor is built, even better if they can show that they have had design inputs into this automation.

Bare metal / hardware automation

- PXE/iPXE boot automation, kickstart or autoinstall files
- BMC protocol experience: Redfish APIs or Vendor BMC exposure: iLO (HPE), iDRAC (Dell), or generic Redfish across mixed hardware Firmware/BIOS config via API

Networking & storage as code

- vSwitch/distributed switch or Linux bridge/OVS, VLAN, VxLAN config done declaratively through automation
- Storage provisioning (datastores, LVM, ZFS/Ceph for Proxmox-adjacent stacks) as part of the pipeline

Nice-to-haves

Exposure to VM lifecycle management via API (clone from template, snapshot, migrate) as part of a broader automation and some programming experience.
