Job Summary

The Staff Systems Engineer for Beckman Coulter Diagnostics is responsible for defining and leading the system-level control logic architecture, and for supporting the integration activities and associated development efforts of our next-generation hematology analyzers. This person is an integral member of the New Product Development team comprised of Systems and Systems Integration SMEs.

This position reports to the Director of Systems and Systems Integration and is part of the Systems Engineering Team located in Bangalore, India and will be an on-site role.

Responsibilities

- Define the strategy and build the systems architecture which support the multiple diagnostic analyzers and automation throughout our product portfolio.

- Drive and evaluate resulting system performance, speed and throughput, and identify root causes for system-level issues, latencies and resource conflicts between Hardware, Firmware, Software and Reagents.

- Contribute to DFMEA, risk management, hazard assessment and design review sessions with Engineering and Systems teams. Analyze outputs and identify HW, FW and SW mitigating solutions to implement adequate risk control measures.

- Refine system architecture and module dependencies, and implement a comprehensive approach for event handling, error reporting, system recovery, while working alongside other engineering teams. Guarantee high quality technical documentation in alignment with Beckman Coulter's processes to ensure a successful transition to Manufacturing, and Global Support.

- Define validation plans and test complex modules and systems, ensuring that components of the system are integrated from low-level HW to top-level UI and function as a whole.



Adopt a hands-on approach to troubleshoot engineering prototypes in their successive iterations and releases.

Essential Requirements

- Bachelor's degree with 10+ years minimum direct work experience, or master's degree with 8+ years minimum direct work experience in a related Engineering discipline (Electrical Engineering, Mechanical, Biomedical, Systems Engineering).

- Expertise in the design, development, system integration, testing and maturation of Medical Diagnostics / Life Sciences / Analytical / Scientific Instrumentation, or complex systems incorporating a mix of fluidics, electro-mechanical and optical hardware, electronics, firmware, embedded computers and software.

- Thorough understanding of system architecture and sub-system dependencies, and of risk analysis, mitigation and controls, relating to instrument control logic, energetic time allocation, hardware synchronization and resource sharing.

Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements

- Ability to travel - 10% worldwide

Preferred/Additional Experience

- Fluidics, precision liquid handling, automation and associated hardware and sensors.

- Definition, planning and execution of multi-cycle integration test, risk retirement and characterization activities in an Agile environment against tight schedules and deadlines.

- Statistical data analysis and reporting software, such as JMP, Minitab, or Excel statistics macros.
