A utility maintenance role involves ensuring the continuous uptime and efficiency of critical non-production plant facilities. This includes overseeing electrical substations, HVAC systems, compressed-air networks, water treatment (ETP/STP), and fire protection systems to prevent costly assembly-line halts.
Core Responsibilities
- Equipment Upkeep: Execute preventive and breakdown maintenance schedules on heavy utility equipment, including Diesel Generators (DG sets), cooling towers, chillers, and air compressors.
- Line Loss Prevention: Rapidly troubleshoot and resolve utility failures to ensure zero line loss or disruption to the main automotive manufacturing floor.
- Energy & EHS Compliance: Maintain environmental, health, and safety (EHS) norms by ensuring zero liquid discharge (ZLD) in Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP) and implementing Lockout/Tagout protocols.
- Energy Management: Monitor and optimize power and fuel consumption, driving energy-saving (Kaizen) initiatives.
- Spares & Inventory: Manage critical spares inventory and coordinate with external vendors for Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMC).
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Utility Uptime: Maintain near-100 % availability of critical plant utilities.
- Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF): Increase the duration between utility system breakdowns.
- Mean Time to Repair (MTTR): Minimize the time required to restore utility operations during breakdowns.
- Energy Consumption Rate: Reduce specific energy consumption per unit manufactured.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Diploma or B.E./B.Tech in Electrical, Mechanical, or Instrumentation Engineering.
- Experience: Typically 3 to 10+ years managing heavy industrial utilities in automotive, sheet metal, or continuous-process manufacturing.
