Anchor/Reporter Shallima Maharaj is a multimedia journalist with KUSA in Denver, Colorado. She came to the Mile High City as a reporter and anchor with Global News in Toronto.
An award-winning storyteller, she embarked on major assignments across North America. This includes the 2018 Toronto van attack, the Toronto Raptors 2019 NBA Championship, and coverage of post-tropical storm Fiona.
Prior to this, Shallima was part of Global Edmonton, the top-ranked and most dominant station in the market. She was part of the station’s RTDNA Award-winning coverage of the historic Fort McMurray wildfire in 2016.
This past July, Shallima covered the evacuation of American Airlines flight 3023 at Denver International Airport. She provided the most comprehensive breaking news coverage in the market and obtained passenger accounts and compelling video.
She has also provided extensive coverage of Colorado’s 2025 Western Slope wildfires,
including interviews with residents and fire agencies working to contain the rapid-moving infernos.
Shallima is a graduate of Toronto Metropolitan University’s School of Journalism. She grew up in Canada’s largest city and relishes an afternoon at the ballpark, hot strong coffee, spicy foods and as much time outdoors as she can get. When she’s not anchoring and reporting, she’s spending time with her husband and their two English bulldogs
