Senior Team Leader - Mechanical (MEP)

The Senior Team Leader - Mechanical will lead a team providing electrical engineering and project management support for US-based construction projects from the Mumbai office. The role is responsible for ensuring the timely, accurate, and high-quality delivery of project activities across document control, engineering coordination, project closeout, budgeting, risk mitigation, scheduling, safety, and commercial administration.
The position requires solid technical knowledge of mechanical systems, a comprehensive understanding of construction and engineering processes, and demonstrated people-management capabilities. The incumbent will plan and allocate team resources, review deliverables, monitor performance, resolve project issues, and collaborate with internal teams, design consultants, trade partners, and project stakeholders.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Team Leadership and Delivery Management
Lead, mentor, and develop mechanical engineers and project support professionals working on Global projects.
Plan and allocate resources based on HVAC, ventilation, plumbing, drainage, and fire-protection scope, technical complexity, RFI and submittal volumes, procurement priorities, and delivery schedules.
Assign clear system ownership, review responsibilities, performance expectations, and delivery timelines to team members.
Monitor productivity, technical quality, utilization, and milestone performance through regular team meetings,
technical reviews, one-to-one discussions, and performance evaluations.
Develop team capability in mechanical construction, US codes and standards, technical submittals, testing, TAB,
commissioning, and project closeout.
Promote accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement,
and serve as the primary escalation point for mechanical engineering and project-delivery issues.
Support recruitment, onboarding, and integration of mechanical team members, as required.
Mechanical Engineering and Technical Oversight
Provide technical leadership for HVAC and ventilation systems, ductwork, plumbing and drainage, fire-protection systems, mechanical piping, and associated installation and turnover activities.
Review mechanical drawings, specifications, basis-of-design documents, mechanical schedules, load, airflow, and pressure calculations, duct and piping layouts, riser diagrams, and schematics for accuracy, constructability,
maintainability, and compliance.
Review mechanical material and product submittals, shop drawings, method statements, installation sequences, and vendor technical data for completeness and compliance with project requirements.
Guide the team in interpreting contract documents and applicable US mechanical, plumbing, fire-protection, energy,
ventilation, and indoor-air-quality requirements.
Develop and review RFIs, shop drawings, product data, method statements, technical queries, and value-engineering proposals; provide technically sound recommendations before submission to the design team.
Review testing, balancing, pressure-testing, flushing, start-up, commissioning, and system-turnover requirements.
Review mechanical installation requirements, access provisions, service clearances, sleeves, and openings, and communicate technical requirements to architectural, structural, and electrical teams.
Monitor procurement and long-lead items for mechanical materials and equipment, and maintain accurate HVAC,
plumbing, fire-protection, RFI, submittal, material, testing, and commissioning registers using standardized QA/QC checklists.
