NoPo Nanotechnologies is one of the few deep tech companies globally that lead the research and development in the nano tubes space. The company manufactures and sells high-quality single walled carbon nano tubes using proprietary methods known as HiPCO®. These nano tubes are extremely small and strong, with a range of useful properties.
Such as semi-conductivity, low density, and high conductivity. They have been used in a variety of applications, including Li-ion batteries, space, defense, and electronics. NoPo is currently scaling up production to meet the customer demands.
The production environment involves high-temperature reactors, precision thermal control, gas handling systems, industrial automation, and safety-critical process operations requiring reliable instrumentation and control architectures.
NoPo Nanotechnologies is seeking a highly skilled Senior Electronics and Instrumentation Engineer to join our team and take ownership of integrating all of our electronics so that they work together seamlessly across the HiPCO reactor and other sub-systems.The ideal candidate will design a range of instruments and electronics, integrate them into a cohesive whole, and continually refine the overall setup for reliability and performance. Hands-on experience with SCADA systems is essential— Hands-on experience with SCADA systems is essential, particularly ABB Ability™ System 800xA distributed control systems (DCS), including system configuration, integration, troubleshooting, commissioning, and plant-wide control implementation. —alongside the design of fail-safe control that monitors temperature, pressure, and various sensors and controls heaters.
Experience with SCR, TRIAC, and Thyristor-based power control circuits for industrial heating applications is essential.
Experience designing industrial heaters (2 kW and above), including Nikrothal-based heating elements, thermal management, and power sizing, is highly desirable. The candidate should be proficient in Python programming and able to work with or guide a team in programming. We are looking for someone with solid hands-on experience and a demonstrated willingness to learn new things and put them into practice, while holding an uncompromising standard for quality.
The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced startup environment, contribute to life-critical systems, and play a key role in system testing, documentation, and continuous improvement
Responsibilities
- Design, develop,
and integrate the full range of electronics and instrumentation across the HiPCO reactor and supporting sub-systems so that every component works together seamlessly.
- Architect, configure, commission, and maintain SCADA-based supervisory control systems, with particular focus on ABB Ability™ System 800xA DCS, for plant-wide monitoring, control, alarm management, historian integration, and operator interface development.
- Design and develop fail-protected control systems, Develop and validate interlocks, alarm strategies, emergency shutdown (ESD) logic, and other process safety functions to ensure safe operation of high-temperature and pressure systems.
- Utilize expertise in TRIACS, SCR, and Thyristor circuits to ensure optimal performance and reliability of the control system.
- Design heaters of 2KW and above using Nikrothal elements, considering electrical characteristics and thermal management.
- Program or guide the team in programming using Python for control system implementation and automation.
- Utilize and program PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) for efficient control system operation and integration.
- Integrate instrumentation, PLCs, DCS systems, HMIs, historians, and field devices using industrial communication protocols such as Mod-bus, Profibus, OPC-UA, Ethernet/IP, or equivalent.
- Apply strong circuit design knowledge and electrical and electronics engineering principles to develop robust system architectures.
- Continuously refine and improve instruments, electronics, and control systems based on performance feedback and technological advancements.
- Test systems thoroughly to ensure safe and reliable operation in life-critical applications, while holding a strict standard for quality.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including process engineers and technicians, to ensure seamless integration of all systems.
- Document designs, specifications, test procedures, and maintenance guidelines.
Requirements
- We are primarily seeking a hands-on Instrumentation & Control / Industrial Automation Engineer with strong experience in PLC, SCADA/DCS (preferably ABB 800xA), process control, system integration, and industrial commissioning environments.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering,
Instrumentation Engineering or a related field. Master's degree is preferred.
- Hands-on experience (6–8 years) designing, integrating, and refining electronics and control systems for complex industrial processes.
- Practical experience with SCADA and Distributed Control Systems (DCS), preferably ABB Ability™ System 800xA. Experience with Honeywell Experion, Emerson DeltaV, Yokogawa CENTUM, Siemens PCS7, or equivalent platforms will also be considered.
- Practical hands-on expertise in TRIACS, SCR, and Thyristor circuits, with a strong understanding of their applications and limitations.
- Experience in process safety systems, equipment interlocks, emergency shutdown systems (ESD), FMEA, HAZOP participation, or equivalent safety-engineering methodologies is highly desirable.
- Practical knowledge and experience in designing heaters of 2KW and above using Nikrothal elements is preferred.
- Working proficiency in Python for automation, data acquisition, equipment communication, diagnostics, data logging, and process monitoring applications.
- Experience programming and commissioning PLC platforms such as ABB, Siemens S7, Allen-Bradley, Schneider, Beckhoff, or equivalent industrial controllers.
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols including Mod bus, Profibus, OPC-UA, Ethernet/IP, CAN, or equivalent industrial networking technologies.
- Strong understanding of circuit design principles and electrical engineering fundamentals.
- Practical experience applying electrical and electronics engineering principles to real-world systems.
- A demonstrated willingness to learn new technologies and implement them, paired with an uncompromising commitment to quality and attention to detail.
