Role Description The Senior Compositor role at Studio 51 is a contract, hybrid position based in Mumbai, with flexibility for some work-from-home days.
The Senior
Compositor will integrate live-action footage, CG elements, and 2D/3D assets to create visually cohesive shots that meet project and client requirements. Day-to-day tasks include setting up and refining node-based composites, balancing color and lighting, managing multilayer EXR passes, and troubleshooting technical issues within the pipeline. The role involves collaborating closely with supervisors, CG, lighting, and animation teams, reviewing shot progress, providing feedback to junior compositors, and ensuring delivery within scheduled deadlines.
The Senior
Compositor is expected to maintain high visual standards, optimize workflows, and contribute to continuous improvement of tools and processes.
Qualifications
- Strong compositing skills, including experience with node-based compositing tools (e.g., Nuke, Fusion) and integrating multiple passes and elements.
- Proficiency in lighting and rendering fundamentals, with the ability to match on-set lighting and blend CG with live-action footage.
- Solid understanding of computer graphics workflows, including 3D pipelines, multi-pass rendering, and common VFX production practices.
- Experience working with live-action plates, camera tracking, and on-set data, ensuring accurate integration of visual effects.
- Familiarity with animation principles and the ability to work with animated CG assets to achieve believable motion and timing.
- Several years of professional experience in high-end film, television, or advertising VFX as a compositor, preferably in a senior or lead capacity.
- Strong artistic eye for composition, color, and detail, alongside advanced problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to mentor junior team members and work in cross-functional teams.
- Comfort with hybrid work arrangements and the ability to manage time and tasks independently.
- Relevant education in VFX, animation, computer graphics, film, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
