Engineering Manager – SAP Master Data

Role Summary The Engineering Manager – SAP Master Data is responsible for leading a team of SAP professionals in delivering reliable, scalable, and business-aligned master data solutions across the SAP landscape. This role combines people leadership, delivery management, stakeholder engagement, and technical oversight to ensure high-quality master data processes, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.

Manager partners closely with business stakeholders, product teams, architects, and external vendors to drive strategic initiatives, support digital transformation, and enable business growth through effective master data management.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & People Management

- Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing team of SAP functional and technical professionals.

Delivery

Ownership & Project Execution

- Own end-to-end delivery of SAP Master Data initiatives, enhancements, and production support activities.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with business objectives.
- Manage priorities, dependencies, resource allocation, and risk mitigation activities.
- Monitor delivery performance and implement corrective actions when required.

Stakeholder Management

- Build and maintain strong relationships with business stakeholders, product owners, and technology teams.
- Act as the primary point of contact for master data-related initiatives and escalations.
- Facilitate alignment between business requirements and technical solutions.
- Communicate project progress, risks, and outcomes to leadership and stakeholders.

SAP Master Data Governance & Process Improvement

- Ensure effective governance and stewardship of SAP master data across relevant business domains.
- Define and enforce data quality standards,



policies, and controls.
- Drive process optimization initiatives to improve efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
- Support global and local business teams in adopting master data best practices.

Resource Planning & Capability Development

- Plan and manage team capacity to support both project delivery and operational needs.
- Identify skill gaps and establish learning and development plans.
- Drive upskilling initiatives, particularly in SAP S/4HANA and emerging technologies.
- Support succession planning and talent development strategies.

Agile Delivery & Operational Excellence

- Promote Agile principles, continuous improvement, and engineering best practices.
- Establish and monitor key delivery and operational metrics.
- Drive service reliability, issue resolution, and process standardization.
- Ensure efficient management of incidents, defects, and change requests.

Vendor & Partner Management

- Collaborate with external vendors, consulting partners, and service providers.
- Monitor vendor performance against contractual and service-level commitments.
- Optimize utilization of partner resources to achieve business objectives.
- Support contract discussions and strategic partner engagements.

Risk & Compliance Management

- Identify, assess, and mitigate delivery, operational, and technical risks.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, governance standards, and audit requirements.
- Support data privacy, security, and regulatory compliance initiatives.
- Drive proactive risk management and business continuity planning.

Technical Responsibilities

SAP S/4HANA Master Data

- Lead the design, governance, and management of master data processes within SAP S/4HANA.
- Support SAP transformation and migration initiatives from ECC to S/4HANA.

Retail Master Data Processes

- Oversee retail master data domains, including products, site/location, vendor, customer, and supply chain master data.
- Ensure alignment with retail business processes and operational requirements.

Data Governance & Quality

- Establish data quality frameworks, governance models, and monitoring mechanisms.
- Drive continuous improvement of data accuracy, consistency, and completeness.

Integration Landscape

- Provide oversight of master data integration across SAP and non-SAP applications.
- Collaborate with architecture and integration teams to ensure reliable data flows and system interoperability.

Automation & Continuous Improvement

- Identify automation opportunities to reduce manual effort and improve operational efficiency.
- Leverage modern technologies, analytics, and AI-driven capabilities where appropriate.
