Reporting To: Head of Quality / Factory Operations Manager
Employment Type: Full-time
Job Purpose The Manager – Quality (Finishing, Polish & PU Works) will lead and oversee all quality assurance, inspection, and process control activities related to surface finishing, wood polishing, PU (Polyurethane) coating, and lacquer/paint operations at the Daman factory. This role is crucial to maintaining Della’s high aesthetic and structural standards across luxury furniture, bespoke joinery, and high-end interior components before final dispatch.
Key Responsibilities
1. Quality Control & Process Oversight
- Oversee and audit end-to-end surface preparation and finishing workflows, including sanding, staining, sealers, spray booth operations (PU/Lacquer), UV coatings, and manual hand-polishing.
- Establish clear quality checkpoints (In-Process Quality Checks) at every phase of the finishing process—from raw white-wood preparation to final top-coat inspection.
- Ensure strict adherence to chemical mix ratios, pot life, dry times, film thickness (DFT/WFT), gloss levels, color matching, and grain clarity.
2. Technical Standards & Testing
- Conduct technical quality tests, including cross-hatch adhesion, scratch resistance, chemical/stain resistance, humidity tolerance, and gloss level readings using specialized tools (e.g., Gloss Meter, Elcometer).
- Build and maintain control samples, visual limit boards,
and color/shade master swatches for consistent reference across batch production.
- Work closely with raw material suppliers (polishes, PU chemicals, thinners, abrasives) to establish incoming material quality standards and verify technical data sheets (TDS).
3. Continuous Improvement & Root Cause Analysis
- Drive Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implement Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) for common finishing defects such as orange peel, blushing, pinholes, sagging, overspray, or shade variations.
- Monitor defect trends, reject rates, and rework costs in the finishing department; implement measures to reduce waste and cycle times.
- Standardize Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for manual polishing, automated spray lines, and booth maintenance.
4. Team Leadership & Capability Building
- Train and upskill QC inspectors, spray painters, polishers, and booth operators on quality standards, defect identification, and proper application techniques.
- Foster a zero-defect culture within the finishing department, emphasizing aesthetic perfection and durability.
- Coordinate with the Production, Carpentry, and Logistics teams to ensure seamless handoff and zero damage during packing and dispatch.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- First-Pass Yield (FPY): Percentage of finished items meeting standards without requiring rework.
- Customer Complaints / In office Defects: Reduction in finishing-related issues reported post-installation.
- Rework & Scrap Cost: Minimization of wasted materials (polishes, sprays, substrates) due to finishing errors.
- Process Standard Compliance: Adherence to defined SOPs, drying times, and spray booth climate parameters.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Diploma or Degree in Paint Technology, Chemical Engineering, Wood Technology, or Production/Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience: 8–12 years of hands-on experience in quality assurance/control specifically focused on high-end furniture polishing, PU coating, wood finishing, and spray application.
- Industry Background: Premium/luxury furniture manufacturing, high-end joinery, architectural woodwork, or high-volume paint/coating manufacturing.
Key Competencies & Technical Skills
- Expert knowledge of PU (Polyurethane), Polyester, NC (Nitrocellulose), Melamine, Water-based finishes, Stains, and UV coating lines.
- In-depth understanding of substrate behaviors (MDF, Veneer, Solid Wood, Plywood) under various finishing treatments.
- Hands-on familiarity with testing equipment (gloss meters, thickness gauges, adhesion testers).
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and analytical skills (RCA, 5S, CAPA).
- Excellent visual perception for shade, texture, and grain matching
