A PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) Engineer is responsible for designing, programming, troubleshooting, and maintaining automated systems that control industrial processes.
Job Summary:
The PLC Engineer is responsible for designing, programming, testing, and maintaining PLC-based control systems used in industrial automation. This role involves working with control systems to improve automation, ensure system functionality, and troubleshoot any operational issues.
Key Responsibilities
1) Design and Program PLC Systems:
Develop and program PLC logic and HMI (Human Machine Interface) systems.
Work with control panels, SCADA systems, and other automation tools to integrate various processes.
Create technical documentation, including wiring diagrams, flowcharts, and PLC code for system integration.
2) Integration and Installation:
Install, configure, and maintain automation systems, including PLC, drives, sensors, and actuators.
Ensure PLC systems are properly integrated with other control systems, machinery, and devices.
3) Collaboration and Support:
Work closely with other engineering teams, production staff, and maintenance personnel.
Provide technical support and training for operators and maintenance staff on PLC systems.
Assist in the development of new control strategies to improve process efficiency.
4) Documentation and Reporting:
Prepare and maintain detailed project documentation, including system specifications, installation guidelines, and operation manuals.
Report project status and issues to management.
Educational Background:
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
Technical Skills:
1. Proficient in PLC programming languages (e.g., Ladder Logic, Structured Text, Functional Block Diagram).
2. Experience with PLC brands such as Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, or Schneider Electric.
3. Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, etc.).
4. Familiarity with SCADA systems, HMI development, and process control.
5. Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in industrial automation and PLC programming.
6. Experience with troubleshooting and maintaining automated systems.
7. Robust analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
8. Ability to diagnose and resolve PLC issues, both in the field and remotely.
Additional Skills:
1. Knowledge of electrical circuits, sensors, and actuators.
2. Understanding of control systems and industrial automation processes.
3. Good communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams.
4. Problem-Solving Skills.
5. Experience with PLC and control systems in industries like manufacturing, oil and gas, automotive, or food processing.
6. Certifications in PLC programming, automation systems, or related fields.
7. Familiarity with robotics or motion control systems.
8. May involve working in industrial environments where safety protocols must be strictly followed.
9. Shift work and overtime may be required based on project deadlines and production needs.
