Job Summary
Pilot Line Technician - Mechanical is responsible for supporting current product introduction and pilot line operations. This role involves working closely with supply chain, service, operations, and manufacturing teams to ensure smooth transition from development to production. The technician will be trained in the art and science of electrical assembly, pilot builds, repair, and servicing complex systems.
This position reports to Manager, Pilot Lab Operations and is part of the Global Instrument Operations and Global Supply Chain Organization. This position is located in Bangalore, India and will be an on-site role.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Design, build, maintain, and rework mechanical and electro-mechanical systems, fixtures, tooling, and pilot production equipment, supporting medical device product development.
- Develop test fixtures and support rapid prototyping using 3D printing, laser cutting, adhesives, and other fabrication processes, while partnering with local vendors to support manufacturing activities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to assemble, test, validate, and troubleshoot electro-mechanical systems and instrument-level designs, supporting mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing development activities.
The essential requirements of the job include:
- Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or equivalent experience with at least 5 years supporting mechanical engineering and product development.
- Hands-on expertise in prototyping, assembly, testing, rework,
fixture fabrication, and mechanical testing of mechanical and electro-mechanical instruments, with proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, CAD models, specifications, and BOMs and using machine shop equipment.
- Strong technical and problem-solving skills, including prototype fabrication, verification testing, performance characterization, root cause analysis, QMS documentation, ANSI/ESD compliance, laboratory equipment and inventory management, calibration and procurement support, and adherence to EHS requirements.
Travel & Physical/Environment Requirements:
- Available for periodic travel (10-20%) to support manufacturing operations, process implementation, and cross-functional collaboration across multiple sites.
- Ability to lift, move or carry equipment up to 25 lbs, any other physical requirements.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously, working independently or collaboratively to deliver results within project timelines.
- Experience in product development and manufacturing environments operating under cGMP, ISO, and FDA regulations.
- Knowledge of Medical Device documentation including Device History Records (DHR), Device Master Records (DMR), and product configuration control.
