Role: Structural Packaging Designer

Job Overview: We are seeking an Creative and highly technical Structural Packaging Designer to engineer custom packaging solutions for high-volume B2B clients. Balancing aesthetics with manufacturing viability, you will design premium rigid boxes, folding cartons, and plant-fiber-based solutions. You will be responsible for the entire structural lifecycle-from 3D conceptualization and 2D dyelines to accurate Bill of Materials (BOM) calculations and factory-floor prototyping.

Key Responsibilities

- Design & Engineering: Evaluate client products to design custom packaging structures and Internal fitments/Inserts that protect the product and enhance the unboxing experience.

- BOM & Costing: Calculate and generate highly accurate Bilis of Materials (BOM) for ail designs, detailing exact substrate requirements, glue/ink consumables, and accessories.

- Material Optimization: Perform nesting and layout optimizations on CAD software to maximize material yield and minimize scrap for high-volume production runs (10,000+ units).

- Prototyping: Create 2D dyelines, generate 3D digital renderings (e.g., Key shot), and build physical white samples using CAD cutting tables for client presentations.

- Collaboration:

Work directly with Key Account Managers to understand client briefs and collaborate with Packaging Estimators to provide exact material specifications for accurate pricing.

- Manufacturing Transition: Ensure all designs are structurally viable for automated production lines and provide final CAD files for die-creation.

Qualifications & Requirements

- Education: Bachelor's degree in Packaging Design, Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related technical field.

- Experience: 3 to 5 years of structural packaging design experience within a manufacturing converting environment.

- Software Proficiency: Advanced skills in packaging CAD software (e.g., ArtiosCAD, AutoCAD Impact) and 3D rendering software (Keyshot, Cinema 4D).

- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of material substrates (corrugated, premium paperboard, molded pulp) and manufacturing processes (die-cutting, scoring, folding, gluing).

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

- BOM Accuracy: Variance between the estimated BOM and the actual material consumed during the first production run.

- Cost Optimization: Percentage of material costs saved through efficient dieline nesting.

- Production Success Rate: Number of designs that transition to mass production without requiring structural modifications on the machine floor.
